Watershed Planning
In 1999, a planning unit made up of local agencies and various
interest groups was formed to plan for future water use in
the Middle Spokane and Little Spokane River watersheds. Since
the project began, the planning unit and consulting scientists
have completed a Data Assessment Report, Instream Flow Analysis,
and evaluation of water use trends. The third draft of the
Middle Spokane and Little Spokane Watershed Plan, which has been
approved by the planning unit, is available.
The recommendations fall into the following categories:
- instream flow needs,
- water conservation, reclamation and reuse,
- domestic exempt wells,
- water rights and claims,
- strategies for base flow augmentation,
- strategies for ground water recharge augmentation, and
- approaches to plan implementation.
The WRIA 55 & 57 Watershed Plan was adopted by the Pend Oreille, Spokane, and Stevens County Commissioners
on January 31, 2006
The WRIA 55 & 57 Watershed Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP) was approved by the Watershed Implementation Team
on February 20, 2008. It is available for download below.
